The past few months have been busy for both students and teachers as they have been pouring their efforts into preparing for the KS2 SATs.
Exam season is often focussed on Key Stage 4 and 5, but I'm sure we all remember the dread that we had undertaking our SATs before we had reached our teens. Read below for our top tips to make this time as smooth as possible.
Put both parents and children at ease
Many parents believe that SATs are not an accurate representation of what their child is capable of, and that they negatively impact their mental health, with concerns about the link between academic pressures and emotional well-being.
Remind parents that SATs don't have an impact on which secondary school their child gets admitted to, and encourage them to ensure that their child is still living a balanced life, enjoying time with family and friends, eating a proper diet and, of course, getting some revision in.
Tailor your classrooms
Unlike in later life, exams in primary school tend to be taken in the same classrooms as their usual lessons. This can help them feel more at ease when completing their paper - you could consider using multifunctional furniture such as our en core table in classrooms. This will allow you to keep the classroom familiar, whilst preparing the students for how exams are going to look in the future.
Using our handy connecting devices, the en core table can be easily transformed into a variety of different layouts.
End the week on a high
Reward children and staff with a fun day at the end of the exams! This could be a great time to schedule sports days or school fairs to bring everyone together, celebrate the end of exam season and their primary school careers.
